This prestigious event, which was organised again this year by Steve Wakefield who put on another great event.
Grimsby rider and flex-tech Ettridge team member Dave Robinson was in action again at this local event . Unusually Dave found himself as the only representative of the flex tech Ettridge team in the group so with no team mates to help this was going to be a solo effort from start to finish.
A renowned tough course based around the back roads near Great Limber this 50 mile road race goes up the 3 mile climb to Caistor from great Limber 6 times during the event.
A strong field of 50 riders left the start line, with temperatures pushing into the mid twenties this was going to prove to be a hard afternoon of racing. The initial climb from the start line was relatively steady , but at the start of the second accent to Caistor the Flex-tech rider Robinson made an attack to draw away from the peloton, the difficulty of been a solo rider was clear with no team mate to back up this attack Robinson was having to work with no rest.
The peloton was half expecting an attack from flex tech and two of the most alert riders in the group riders followed Robinson some meters behind him, however by working together they managed to catch the hard charging flex tech rider after about 2 miles the three rider then worked together but eventually the work load proved too high for one of the trio leaving just two riders to share the work eventually Robinson was left in a solo break once again.
A secondary eight man breakaway group had managed to get clear from the main peloton which was now suffering from a combination of the high speed chase and high temperatures and riders were dropping out a quite a rate. The eight man group made a determined effort to catch Robinson and succeeded by the 10 mile point merging into a 9 rider breakaway group.
This group worked together and started to pull away from the main peloton securing almost 3 minutes over the main bunch during the next 45 miles of racing. With just three miles to the finish there remained one the last climb to Caistor and the finishing line. Robinson again attack from the start of the climb instantly reducing the front group by 4 riders who could no longer cope with the heat and uphill nature of the finish, with all riders now struggling to maintain a strong pace it was down to sheer determination, Robinson having ridden in the breakaway form very early on was determined to hold on for the group D win and made one final charge from 200meters out to take first place in this category.
The flex-tech rider has hit good form winning his category in both locally held LVRC races over the past 6 weeks.
